Developmental editing considers all the aspects of a manuscript to make it readable and enjoyable. Therefore, within this edit you'll receive big-picture feedback by means of in-line editorial notes within your manuscript and a summarized letter report of which areas exactly require revisions. In addition, I will provide detailed suggestions on how to improve each area that needs revisions, giving you a starting point to make those necessary changes.

As your editor, what I'll be looking at is the organization and strength of your manuscript. Weak links will be brought to light with questions, such as:

• Is this the right number of chapters and word length for this manuscript and genre?

• Are the chapters and paragraphs in the right order?

• Are there any places in the manuscript where the pacing lags, and/or is it balanced?

• Is there a hole in the information or story presented?

• Are the characters likable and/or relatable?

• Etc.

The Process:

We have an initial meeting session over your chosen method of communication (email, phone, zoom). For this initial session, we'll discuss your manuscript. At this time, you'll let me know your target audience, what type of voice you want to portray through your characters, how you want your readers to portray your manuscript, what expectations you have for your manuscript, and where the story is will lead, etc.

Then, I'll read the manuscript in its entirety and leave detailed in-line comments and suggestions on areas that can and should be improved. As I read, I'll be delving into every aspect of your story and its elements taking notes. Then, I will draft up a report, explaining in-depth the revisions that need made and referring to certain comment suggestions on pages to give examples/options to choose from on how to make those revisions and improve your writing.

Once done, I send you the manuscript with my in-line comments and suggestions back, along with the summarized report. Once you've gone over it all, you then make an appointment to have a review session with me. During this review session, we go over the in-line comments and summarized report together. In addition, I'll answer any questions you may have.

After our review session, you make all the changes that you seem fit to make based on my editorial suggestions and send the manuscript back to me. I will do a final read-through (proofreading), making in-line final comments/suggestions of improvement if needed. Once done, I send the manuscript back with my final suggestions and feedback on your revised manuscript. After you've gone over it, you'll make an appointment for our final review session.
