A Purposeful Life

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

I realize it's about to be Valentine's Day this weekend; however, I want to talk about life-goals for this month's blog. Do you have any? If your answer is yes, then what are they? Are they akin to something like getting a particular job you've always wanted, finding the right person to be with and getting married, traveling around the world and experiencing new things, passing an exam, learn something new or picking up a new hobby, buying a new house, starting a new business, or even moving to the place you most want to live at? If so, then those are great goals! Unfortunately, though, those are not life-goals. Because let me ask you this, after you've achieved your goal(s), what then? What do you plan on doing with the remainder of your life?

Didn't think of that? Well, you're not alone in that. People often tend not to think about the 'after' and only focus on the 'now.'

"So then, what is a life-goal?" you ask. Well, a life-goal is a type of goal that serves something bigger than just yourself. It's about serving others by serving God in the role He has for you to play in this life.

However, I'm not saying reaching your own goals is bad because it's not. It's good to have your own goals, but it's also good to have life-goals too. Let me put it this way. . . if you only ever focus on achieving your own goal, you usually start looking or working towards another, then another, and another after that. So only working towards and achieving your own goals becomes this neverending flood of benefitting yourself and getting what you want, only to find yourself still parched and unsatisfied.

I get it. . . sometimes, it can be easy to get caught up in ourselves and stuck in our own little bubble, but don't forget that the world and life itself is made up of more than just you. So, use your skills and God-given talents to make the world a better place, be a good example for the future generations to come, open your heart to the broken and weary, find a God-driven passion of yours and take big or small steps to work towards it every day, form an organization to do good deeds by helping those in need, start a business and promote Christ-like conduct and communion within the workplace to encourage your employees to do the same throughout the community, and so on. Now, THESE are life-goals!

Philippians2:4

"Don't look out for only your own interests, but take an interest in others, too."

Now that you know what a life-goal is, you can start making your own. Here are just a few examples of my life-goals that I am quite passionate about.

They are:

  • First and foremost, my main life-goal is to serve my Lord by bringing my readers closer to God and opening their hearts to Him through my writing! God gave me this talent, and I aim to use it for Him.

  • Stop innocent animals from being abused or inhumanely slaughtered. (Now, for those of you who hunt, I am not against hunting animals for food. I like eating meat, so I'm for it. But what I'm not for is trophy hunting.) Therefore, I want to rescue animals put in an enclosed space and forced to fight for their lives, neglected and abused, puppy mills, kill shelters, and meat factories/slaughterhouses.

  • Improve the educational system by creating student-based curriculums that foster learning through what they love and focus on an education set towards their needs and professional desires. Also, I want to implement godly teachings in the students' lessons and teach students basic survival skills outdoors.

  • Stop women from being sexualized or being used as sexual objects in social media outputs, the entertainment business, and the workforce. This also includes efforts to stop sex trafficking!

  • Creating a better world by working towards repairing the damage we have caused to the environment worldwide. I hope to reestablish the world/environment to something similar to what it once was when God created it.

  • Buy and repair old homes and land (homes all around, but primarily focus on homes in the city), then sell them at reasonable rates to improve the quality and livelihoods of the people.

These life-goals are focused on serving my Lord and the greater good of humanity, not me. And I promise you, your God-driven passions and life-goals will not only be pleasing to the Lord but will also be pleasing to your soul. So, work on finding your life-goals today.

Love God, love others, and love what you do!

Philippians2:13

"For God is working in you, giving you the desire and power to do what pleases Him."

2Thessalonians1:11

"So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of His call. May He give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do."

Philippians4:13

"For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."

1John3:18

"Dear children, let's not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions."

Psalms33:5

"He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the Earth."
