Hello Depression, My Old Friend

Dark and purple they grow,

Nights of restlessness calling out thy name,

Grating against cold withery bones,

Only to sink further below.

Emptiness
All black & white photos for this post are by akirakirai.

It bubbles and writhes,

Pools of black ooze as thick as tar,

Hands shooting out with a white-knuckled grip,

Pulling thy asunder into the deep dark abyss.

A kick and a scream,

Is all that is mustered,

Fore sharp-cutting fingers crawl up thy skin,

Only to smother.

No fight left,

Only a tear and slumber.

Wake up!

No,

I'm tired.

Sometimes, everyday life gets so overwhelming that it just sucks the life right outta us. We become tired, unmotivated, drained, lifeless, devoid of emotion, isolated, lonely, and pained.

Thanks, depression. You've got one job, and well, you're killing it!

Those of you who've gone through those emotions but didn't understand why or what it was, well that's depression for you. Everyone gets it, though, the majority is able to watch it flutter on by as a simple blimp in their otherwise mere existence. For others, such as myself, we aren't allowed that kind of luxury. Instead, it clings to us, relentlessly affixing itself to our souls like a moth to flame. Chronic depressive disorder.

Could you imagine it?

Having to experience such grotesque feelings in frequent unexpected bouts that only God knows how long they'll last for or when it'll once again strike back after just getting over a recent bout of it . . .

Well, can you?

Regardless of your answer, life is constantly and unforgivingly moving forward. It forces us to make choices on the direction of our lives every day. Unable to take a step back for even a second, because every choice and action we take, no matter how big or small, affects both us and the people around us.

I don't know about you, but that sounds utterly exhausting to me, trying to pick and choose my actions and choices carefully to not only make sure they don't affect myself negatively, but others too. It's no wonder why so many good people are worn out and tired. They're walking on eggshells trying not to hurt themselves, but also trying not to trip up anyone else in the process.

But hey, at least here's some good news: God's got everything worked out and has already planned our steps. He's made a way for us all!

Proverbs16:9

"We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps."

And even though we know this, it's alright to still be tired. I am too. Life is too much and feels more like a curse than a blessing. But the key is to not forget this is all temporary. He uses trials in our lives to build our faith, strengthen our character, and prepare us for something far better than we could possibly ever imagine.

So, if you're tired, like me, keep pushing through and be both wise and kind with your choices, actions, and words because they still matter.

Isaiah35:3

"With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees."

We're almost there!

Jeramiah29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm, plans to give you hope and a future."

2Samuel22:37

"You have a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping."

2Corinthian4:17

"For our present troubles are momentary and small, preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison."

Matthew11:29

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."

Galatians6:9

"So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up."

Psalms120:6

"I am tired of living among people who hate peace."
